I am happy to bring you this 2nd issue of Ugnayang Bayan Newsletter --a labor of love of our interim Secretary Rudy Guacena who made this possible. (“Thank you, Rudy!”).
You will find here a “smorgasbord” of events in our community from the maiden issue launch of the Ugnayang Bayan Newsletter on April 20, 2006 leading to the end of our June month-long celebration of the 108th Philippine Independence Day Celebration.
If you don’t read anything about your association’s May-June activities here, please do not be upset. It is most likely that they slip through our radar, considering the many activities happening simultaneously on top of all our commitments and busy schedules. Hence, to ensure we take note of the key milestone activities in your associations, please email us the info (+photos will be appreciated!) at ubgevd@gmail.com.
I am also happy to say that the Ugnayang Bayan Interim Executive Committee is well on its 6th month term with 2 more months to go before disbanding (in September-2006)-- to give way to the soon formal Ugnayang Bayan community-wide elected set of Board of Directors. Please GET INVOLVE, and DO NOT FORGET the following dates:
· Submission of candidatures - June 15 - July 20, 2006 (~1 month)
· Campaign and presentation of candidates to the public - July 21-Sep 20, 2006 (~2 months)
· UB Election - Sep 21, 2006

Last but not least, I like to take this opportunity (in behalf of the rest of the Interim Executive Committee officers) to “Thank You” for giving us this opportunity to help pave the way for more unity (pagkakaisa), cooperation and collaboration (bayanihan/tulungan), interdependence and knowledge-based decision making, among our Filipino communities here in the canton of Geneve and Vaud. We thank you for your trust and support, and the opportunity to serve you in this short period.
Sincerely, TESS BAARDE :o)
The Quantum Leap or Smorgasbord of Dreams?
The maiden issue of the Ugnayang Bayan Newsletter was 20 April 2006. Two days later, Haritz Media Association brought in Martin Nievera to the Noga Hilton. Sweet memories are there to stay.
Since then, there were numerous events in our community that have permeated the psyche of the Filipino communities in Geneva and Lausanne.
Let’s have a look to some of them!

Efren Reyes of the Geneva International Drivers went to Bantay Bata 163 headquarters in Quezon City and donated 58,000 PHP; a great effort from all the generous members of the GID. The group of Mrs. Rose Zipagan Guacena has also transferred a total of 1853 CHF year to date. This includes also Ms. Helen Brunner’s’ BB163 Coin Bank.
There were also the twin projects of API : The spring bowling at Meyrin Bowling and the tennis tournament in City Green du Léman. It is observed that the organization is very cause oriented having been in existence for a long time. There is always a recipient in the Philippines for every API project.

The Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva produced two major billiard tournaments. The Easter Sunday 9 balls and the June 4, 9 balls Ambassador’s Cup. Both events were held at La Sphere at 80-82 Rue de Laussanne in Geneva. Monan Ruben and Gerry Quinto respectively emerged victorious from a group of billiard aficionados.

The community was also treated to a musical of WOW GK Bayani organized by the CFC last 19 May 2006 at Salle Centrale Madeleine. “The show also seeks to promote the vision of GK777 (building 700,000 homes in 7,000 communities in 7 years). Now on its third year, GK has already built around 650 villages and is adding about 1 village per day, one slum disappearing from the Philippines forever!” Thanks Art and Elmer!
The classical concert presented by CJTF last 21 June was very much welcome as it lifts our spirits and relaxes our minds?

During this time, we had our share of VIP visitors who took time from their busy schedules to update the community of current political events. The Geneva Forum for Philippine Concerns hosted Congressman Aguha. The GFPC and Bagtasan also hosted Senator Jamby Madrigal. Migrante hosted Congressman Satur Ocampo’s Talakayan. La Bonne Fourchette’s reputation has skyrocketed as a parallel to “Kapihan sa Maynila”.
At this time too, FILSVA, the association of Filipinos in Lausanne was born. To Shirley, Nessie, Dionisia and company, thanks for attending the GA meetings and actively participating in the Independence Day celebrations!
contact: mila.d.aguilar@gmail.com

For a while, we thought she would not come and when she did, Mila D. Aguilar made sure many members of the community take advantage of her double presentation: Birthing Lupang Hinirang (BLH) and Entrepreneurial Mass Movement (EMM). Her visit to Geneva (from June 21 until July 2) culminated and closed with a big BANG! -- the month long Philippine Independence Day celebration. Mila left our hearts burning with “love of God’s chosen land: our Philippines”, and our minds mobilized on a journey towards national transformation—a national movement for righteousness and transformation (N-MRT) fuelled by our love of country and “mass entrepreneurial” spirit. This is a project of UB Nena Marco and the Philippine Mission’s Congen. Grace Princesa. Mila’s trip to Geneva was sponsored by Geneva Manila Express (GME). Merci beaucoup Mila, Congen Grace, and Jenny Von Alvensleben!
Tropang Pinoy was also ubiquitous in community gatherings with Au’s group mesmerising the multinational crowd with their native Tinikling, Fandango sa Ilaw, atbp. Slowly, the group is fast becoming a showcase of the Filipino culture.
The very cohesive and cooperative group of SMI, Samahan ng Migranteng Ilokano has shown a lot of effort in community involvement. One has to review the stall arrangements last 11 June 2006. Kudos to the organizers: Helen, Joel, Audie, and Beth (our regards to Elvis of La Sphere).
The FCCG had their annual Barrio Fiesta at Pope John XXIII last 25th of June and grossed ~4,020 CHF from the affair. 50% went to support the charity projects of the WCW Sisters in Pangasinan, 25% went to Pope John XXIII parish funds, and the last 25% went to the FCCG Recollection Fund. The occasion also marked the end of Tess Baarde’s fruitful 4 year-leadership term as she passed the torch to the newly elected Chairperson Ms. Jessica Aqui. Photo on induction of FCCG officers last 25 June, 2006
The culmination and crossroads of all these were evidenced last 11 June 2006. YOU were there and you decided to participate in OUR
For now, our Treasurer, Harry Lacsamana has reported a healthy fiscal status of the Ugnayang Bayan from a mere Turn Over Balance of 2625.60 in 31 March 2006 to a whooping CHF 6641.70 as of 15 June 2006. That’s only a period of two and a half months!

Les evenements et spectacles 1:
The philanthropist spirit of the SMI brought about the search for Little Miss and Mister Bantay Bata 163. They will
have a dinner and dance to commemorate the first year of the SMI to be held on 23 September 2006 at Maison du Faubourg, 6-8 rue des Terraux-du-Temple, 1201 Genève. Cf. Haritz Media Association is looking for talents who would perform side by side with a famous recording artist next year.
